The Bangalore VFS Canada centre — what it is, and what it is not

Applicants from Bangalore use the Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Bangalore, about In-city away, at VFS Global Canada Visa Application Centre, Global Tech Park, Outer Ring Road, Bellandur. It is worth being clear about what happens there, because a lot of people expect more from it than it can give.

A VFS centre is not the Canadian High Commission and its staff are not visa officers. Nobody at the VAC decides your application, and nobody there can tell you why you were refused. VFS is a private contractor that handles logistics — collecting your passport, taking your biometrics (fingerprints and photo), and couriering documents to and from IRCC.

That distinction matters after a refusal. People go back to the VAC in Bangalore asking for reasons and are turned away, because the reasons are not held there. They are held by IRCC in your GCMS file — and the only way to read that file is to request it yourself, free, or have us do it for you.

• Biometrics are usually valid for 10 years. If you gave them for a previous Canadian application, you may not need to travel to Bangalore again.
