How much do CAIPS / GCMS notes cost?
Short answer
IRCC charges no fee when you ask for your own records under Canada's Privacy Act.
If you want us to file a records request for you, we charge ₹499 to ₹1,999. Our prices include GST, and we add no government fee. If you want us to file a records request for you, we charge C$29 to C$119. The price shown is the total we charge, and we add no government fee. If you want us to file a records request for you, we charge US$19 to US$79. The price shown is the total we charge, and we add no government fee.
What does IRCC charge?
Nothing, if you ask for your own records under the Privacy Act.
Anyone, anywhere in the world, can ask IRCC for their own records.
This right comes from Canada's Privacy Act.
The Act names Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Since 13 July 2022, the right also covers all other people outside Canada.
The rules made under the Privacy Act set no fee. IRCC's own page says:
“There are no fees involved with the processing of a request under this Act.”

What is the $5 fee, then?
The $5 fee belongs to a different law, the Access to Information Act.
That law is for government records in general. For your own records, the free Privacy Act route is open to you.
The fee is 5 Canadian dollars, paid when the request is sent.
Only Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and people or companies in Canada can use that law.

The basic service, CAIPS Notes, is ₹499C$29US$19. The price depends on your case, such as a lost application number. If you ask IRCC yourself under the Privacy Act, there is no fee.
Do I have to pay IRCC $5 for GCMS notes?
No. A Privacy Act request for your own records is free. The $5 fee is for requests under a different law, the Access to Information Act. Only Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and people or companies in Canada can use that law.
Why pay you if I can ask for free?
You do not have to pay us. You can ask IRCC for your own records yourself, free. People pay us to prepare a records request, file it and follow it. We can also word the request for you if you lost your application number. Our plain-English reading of the notes is included in Complete and Priority Complete, or costs ₹699C$39US$25.
Is your price the full price?
